This competition, which was created in Japan in 1982, thanks to AIR FRANCE has taken an international dimension in 1983 with the participation of the Fédération Française de la Couture, du Prêt à Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode.

This year, 130 clothing models and 45 accessory models designed and made by students from about 50 international fashion schools representing a total of 15 countries were shown in the Delorme Room at the Carrousel du Louvre. The theme for the 22nd contest was “Ecology and Environment”. Each country was asked to present models according to this theme and its own cultural references.

This international competition is organised annually by AIR FRANCE, in partnership with the Fédération Française de la Couture, du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode, and under the patronage of the PARIS TOWN COUNCILand again this year with the support of both LE DEFI and PFAFF, manufacturer of high-quality sewing machines for over 140 years. As well as giving young designers an opportunity to present their creations in a professional setting to key players from the world of Fashion, the event also allows them to evaluate their know-how, techniques and projects, and gain an insight into the variety of cultures represented.

The Lesage school of art embroidery has offered a training course to Kilyun SIN (France) of the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne .

Pierre CARDIN wished to award a Special Prize to Aki KOIKE (Japan)
