December 7th 2004 - INTERNATIONAL CONTEST FOR YOUNG FASHION DESIGNERS

The Annual Final of the International Contest for Young Fashion Designers will take place in Paris, at the Carrousel du Louvre, on Thursday December 16, 2004. During this fashion show, fashion students from 15 participating countries (i.e. Germany, Argentina, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Great-Britain, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan, Peru, The Philippines, Sweden, Thailand and the United States –among which 9 countries for fashion accessories-) will submit their creations before a jury composed of fashion personalities such as Designers, Journalists, etc…

For these blooming young talents, the subject picked by the organizers this year is “Ecology and Environment”. Thus each country will express a specific point of view with respect to issues connected with ecology, nature preservation, sustainable growth. Titles chosen are more the reflection of the raising of people’s consciousness of these problems, of their will to act upon them rather than a deep worry, like Germany’s “Fashion for a better world”, China’s “Human being is part of the Universe”, Japan’s “Mode et Environnement”, France’s “Mode et Ecologie”, etc.

That very day, during the jury’s deliberations, the names of the winners of the “Grands Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris” will be disclosed.

First launched in Japan on Air France Japon’s initiative, the Young Fashion Designers Contest was created in 1982. The year after, the partnership with the Fédération Française de la Couture, du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode proved its worth and added an international dimension to the Contest.

With the support of PFAFF and LE DEFI, and under the prestigious patronage of the Paris City Council, this Thursday December 16th Fashion Show will present a selection of the most talented fashion students driven by the same desire: presenting their creations in Paris.
