THE PASSING AWAY OF MR. JOHN FAIRCHILD - 2 March 2015
John Fairchild died on February 27, 2015, at the age of 87.
When, in 1960, and at his Father’s request, he took over the Women’s Wear Daily Paris office direction, the French Fashion Industry was going through a pivotal period: Ready to Wear didn’t exist yet and Couture was still at a firmament. In fact, Courrèges and Yves Saint Laurent would only open their «salons» two years later, in 1962.
John Fairchild reveals himself a convinced and passionate analyst, of both the professionnal and socialite Parisian scene. A talented commentator, gladly ironic, John Fairchild was equally feared and respected.
Until his group was sold at Condé Nast in 1997, he was the most influential Fashion man in the world and a devoted defender of French Fashion.
