Conference Synopsis : At its core the fashion industry is a visual medium. It comes as no surprise then that it embraced with open arms Instagram, the social media platform that focuses on story telling through imagery. What are the different approaches that designers, luxury brands, and fashion aficionados using on the site to engage with followers ? Is Instagram the ultimate sophisticated marketing tool to reach anti advertising consumers ? Are the goals always commercial, or is there something different about Instagram that lends itself to a more intimate expression of a personal perspective ? And with the arrival in March of the site’s new carousel ads, designed to be a digital analog to the multi-page print magazine spread, will Instagram’s initial creative appeal loose its charm for the creative milieu that helped it attain more than 300 million monthly active users ? Our panelists Felipe Oliveira Baptista, Michel Campan, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Simon Porte Jacquemus and Uche Pézard will explore this issue in a debate moderated by Jessica Michault.

Conference Synopsis : The question of sustainable development is more and more present and concerning in the overall economy and in society. The challenge that it presents for the fashion industry is paradoxical because the fashion companies business model for fashion companies requires them to constantly renew their product offering when sustainable development would advocate that goods be consumed or appreciated over time. There are certainly other areas of this issue where the fashion industry could be on the forefront of progress in the same way this industry is often a trend leader. What are the challenges to the corporate social responsibility of fashion companies ? How can fashion companies contribute to environmental protection ? How can the fashion industry contribute to the reduction of C02 emissions and what initiatives should it take at a time where France is preparing to host the 21st United Nations Conference on Global Warming ? How can companies, like consumers, take a proactive role in this general economic and societal change and, rather than be affected by it, make it part of their competitive edge and of their future well-being ? How can the industry develop a new environmental ecosystem throughout its chain of production ? How should fashion companies position themselves on the international chessboard ? At the same time, the luxury goods industry, constantly interacting with the fashion industry, is focused on the long-term appeal of its goods and its quest for timelessness. Does this make the luxury goods industry better-positioned for the challenges of sustainable development in terms of environmental protection and social responsibility ? Our industry needs to answer these most critical and interlinked questions. The round table discussion on this subject will seek to respond to these concerns by identifying innovative and concrete answers and growth options.
