Discours de Ralph Toledano, Président de la Fédération française de la Couture
"First of all, on behalf of the Board of the French Federation, I wish to thank very warmly Madame la Maire Anne Hidalgo for welcoming us in this magnificient Hôtel de Ville.
Our gathering tonight, associated with the ’La Mode Aime Paris’ campaign is a strong evidence of the City of Paris’ commitment to join forces with the French Federation to support our industry in general and Paris Fashion Week in particular.
What better illustration that Paris is the beacon for design than this week’s Eiffel tower’s dazzling illumination !
‘Fashion loves Paris’ !
By essence, fashion is international and Paris has always been a magnet and a natural home for fashion talents : from Worth to Balenciaga and Schiaparelli, then Karl Lagerfeld and Azzedine Alaïa, followed by the Japanese, Belgian, English, American and now Chinese designers. This week, designers of 25 nationalities presented nearly a hundred shows in Paris.
What is Paris ? Certainly one of the most, if not the most beautiful and stimulating city in the world. A city that rhymeswith timeless elegance, effortless chic and unrivaled sense of style. La Parisienne and her je-ne-sais-quoi do not need further introduction…
But also, I would like to salutethe incredible ateliers, the amazingly skilled « petites mains » perpetuating the dozens of métiers d’arts with their unique know-how, which we preserve like a living treasure.
When you travel all over the world, it is always fascinating to see how much Paris and France inspire and resonate essentially through our emblematic fashion and art de vivre brands.
In this digital age when some people are wondering if shows will become entertainment, Paris will always be true to its core values and unique stature by remaining the home of limitless creativity and emotions. It is in Paris’ DNA to make you vibrate with excitment. Paris is passionate about supporting innovation and emerging talents, as well as nurturing excellence and craftsmanhip.
If Fashion loves Paris, I would equally say that Paris loves fashion.
Paris loves fashion people and Paris loves our friends from overseas : designers first of all, but also editors, buyers, photographers, models coming from the entire world. As Madame Le Maire, Madame Anne Hidalgo recently said : ‘Paris belongs to the Parisians, to the French and also to the whole world’.
Paris is proud to welcome so many talented individuals season after season in its heart and in its streets.
At the end of the day, we form a big family, because we share the same passion.
Finally I want to take this opportunity to praise my close family, the French fashion family.
Twenty five years ago, Paris designers were artisans. Since then, under the guidance of exceptional business and creative visionaries, you have built an impressive number of prestigious and influential fashion brands and an extremely powerful industry.
An industry that has created tens of thousands of jobs, one that exports 90% of its production and that has been seeing a two-digit growth for years. You should be really proud of what you have achieved.
In a context where our country is questioning its position in a global world, you are the evidence that France can be a winner.
And now because we are in Paris, let’s celebrate !"
